Dr. Shobha Ravishankar received her MBBS and Diploma in Anaesthesiology from Indira Gandhi Medical College in Nagpur in 1992. She has also completed a fellowship in Paediatric Anaesthesia at ORBIS International in the United States.
She worked as a Consultant Anaesthesiologist at the Vijaya Hospital – MIOT in Chennai from 1992 to 1998. She has worked as a consultant anaesthesiologist at the Sankara Nethralaya, a unit of the Medical Research Foundation in Chennai, since 1998. She has extensive experience in neuro anaesthesia, trauma, critical care, pediatric anaesthesia, orthopedic and vascular surgery anaesthesia, and plastic surgery anaesthesia.
She has given numerous papers at state and national conferences. She also runs teaching classes for students enrolled in allied courses at BITS Pilani. She served as the Chair of the Scientific Committee for a CME on Paediatric Anaesthesia and Medicine in Chennai in June 2005. In 1992, she finished second in the University examination for DA. She was also given a Lions Club Scholarship for being the best female student. Her primary areas of interest are preterm infant anesthesia and critical care.
