Experience
- Dr Leong Chi Sern Leslie is an orthopaedic surgeon at Singapore’s Gleneagles Hospital. Adult rehabilitation and joint replacement surgery are among his clinical interests.
Dr Leong graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1991 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). In 1997, he earned a Master of Medicine (Surgery) and Fellowship in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
In 2001, he was awarded a Ministry of Health Manpower Development Program (HMDP) scholarship to train in adult reconstruction in hip and knee arthroplasty at Toronto Western Hospital. He continued his stay to complete further training at a number of hospitals, including Mount Sinai Hospital, the Orthopaedic and Arthritis Institute, and the London Health Sciences Centre. - Dr Leong Chi Sern Leslie founded the Adult Reconstruction Service at Changi General Hospital upon his return to Singapore and pioneered the use of minimally invasive hip and knee arthroplasty, computer assisted surgery, alternative bearings in hip and knee replacement, various types of partial knee replacement, revision arthroplasty, and multimodal pain management.
Dr Leong Chi Sern Leslie was the Principal Investigator in two ongoing clinical drug trials (Phase II and III) aimed at preventing deep vein thrombosis following complete knee replacement. He has also taught workshops and delivered seminars on a variety of topics related to osteoporosis and hip and knee surgery. In terms of health care, he has chaired and participated in a variety of programs aimed at improving patient safety, and he attended the 2007 Joint Commission International Advanced Practicum for Accreditation, Quality Improvement, and Patient Safety in Chicago.
Prior to entering private practice, he worked as a consultant and director of the Changi General Hospital’s Adult Reconstruction Service. He is a visiting physician at Changi General Hospital, St Andrews Community Hospital, and the Singapore Spastic Children’s Association, as well as a clinical lecturer at the National University of Singapore Faculty of Medicine. In recent years, he has also volunteered his time to medical missions in Indonesia.
