Professional Statement

Dr Syeda Tabassum Alam completed her MBBS in January 1987 from Sir Salimullah Medical College in Dhaka and her Diploma in Child Health in July 1991 from IPGMER. In January 2006, she finished her fellowship in paediatrics (FCPS). Additionally, she earned a Doctor of Medicine in Paediatric Neurology & Neurodevelopment (MD-Paediatric Neurology) from Bangladesh’s Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). She earned a South Korean Fellowship in Autism.

After passing the BCS (Health) Examination, she entered the Government Service in 1990 as an Assistant Surgeon and served in several District Government Hospitals.

She then joined BSMMU (Ex – IPGMER) as a Medical Officer in the Department of Paediatrics in 1994 and worked as a Research Medical Officer and consultant in the Paediatrics Department of BSMMU. In 2006, she was appointed to Assistant Professor of Paediatrics, where she remained for seven years, until 2013. She was then promoted to Associate Professor in January 2013 and has worked at BSMMU’s Department of Paediatric Neurology and Institute of Paediatric Neurodisorders and Autism (IPNA) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, since then.

On October 10, 2021, she was appointed to Deputy Director (Administration) at the Institute of Paediatric Neurodisorders and Autism (IPNA), where she has worked since.

She has published over 30 publications in national and international journals and has been an active participant in BSMMU’s research, teaching, and other academic activities. She has spoken at several international neurology conferences in Bhutan, South Korea, and India, among other places.
She is now an Associate Professor at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital’s Department of Pediatric Neurology. She treats her patients on a daily basis at Dhaka’s Central Hospital Limited. Dr Syeda Tabassum Alam practices from 5pm to 8.30pm at Central Hospital Limited in Dhaka (Closed: Friday & Tuesday).
