Education & Experience:
Dr Mark Hon Wah Ignatius’s medical degree is from the Singapore National University. He took the Welsh examination for admission to the Royal College of Surgeons in 1998, and passed in 1999. After receiving his Master’s in Otolaryngology from NUS, he is currently a Fellow of Otolaryngology at the Royal College of Surgeons in the UK.
Dr Mark Hon Wah Ignatius went to Stanford University, California, USA, where he completed a fellowship in sleep surgery with the leading pioneers of sleep medicine, Professor Richard Goode, Dr Nelson Powell and Dr Robert Riley. He received an A.B. degree in sleep science and achieved board certification in sleep medicine through the American Board of Sleep Medicine. As one of the few ENT surgeons worldwide, he has this specialization as well.
Dr Mark Hon Wah Ignatius has considerable experience in clinical and fundamental science and is actively involved in many new ventures. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, presented at numerous local and international conferences, and is a reviewer of the Singapore Medical Journal and Singapore Medical Journal Annals.
Firstly, Dr Mark is a Clinical Mentor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in National University of Singapore, and secondly, he is associated with undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He was the main author of the ENT sleep module in the Training Programme.
The researcher is interested in teaching courses on sleep disorders and has trained doctors from Brunei and Malaysia about the disease.
He also attended the SNOS Workshop conducted in November 2008 in Singapore General Hospital as part of the Singapore Sleep Symposium 2008. This was an international conference on sleep disorders, bringing experts from around the world to discuss how to identify, treat and avoid sleep disorders.
Dr Mark Hon Wah Ignatius is also a member of both professional and industry associations. Included in the association’s guidelines are the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Singapore Sleep Society and Singapore Medical Association. He is a member of the Otolaryngology Board of the Otolaryngology Society of Singapore. Dr. Mark is now working at Parkway East Hospital and specializes in providing treatments for sleep disturbances, snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, sleep apnoea, and thyroid tumors.
