Professional Statement

Dr Stephen, M.D. is a Psychosis Clinic Attending Psychiatrist at UCLA. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and his Doctor of Medicine from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He did a residency at the University of Southern California after an internship at Denver General Hospital. From 1975 to 1977, he worked as a Clinical Associate at the National Institute of Mental Health’s Biological Psychiatry Branch. In 1977, he joined the Brentwood VA Medical Center staff and the UCLA faculty.

Dr Marder’s research has centered on the pharmacology and treatment of schizophrenia using antipsychotic medications. He has produced or co-authored over 200 research-based journal articles and book chapters. He is the Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ VISN 22 Mental Illness Research, Education Clinical Center (MIRECC) and the Director of the Section on Psychosis at the UCLA Semel Institute of Neuroscience and Human Behavior.

Dr Marder is linked with a number of local institutions, including Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA and UCLA Medical Center. He has been practicing law for almost 20 years.
