At Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore, Dr Foo Chek Siang is a general surgeon.
In bariatric surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, and upper gastrointestinal surgery, he has specific interests.
Dr Foo Chek Siang received instruction in advanced laparoscopic techniques in gastrointestinal surgery at the Institute of Laparoscopic Surgery in Bordeaux, France, as part of his sub-specialty training. He then pursued a one-year fellowship at St George Hospital, Kogarah-Sydney, Australia in 2008 through the HMDP award, where he honed his skills in advanced laparoscopy and upper gastrointestinal and bariatric work.
Dr Foo Chek Siang was a consultant in the general surgery department at Changi General Hospital prior to forming his private practice. He served as the head of the hospital’s endoscopic centre during his tenure.
In advanced laparoscopic techniques as well as in the regional Asia Endosurgery Task Force, Dr Foo was appointed to the faculty of local master classes. He continues to share his expertise and encourages surgeons in South East Asia and broader East Asia to follow advanced surgical techniques.
Dr Foo Chek Siang is also actively interested in the moulding of future generations of doctors as a clinical lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. He is also a faculty member in the internship program for SingHealth General Surgery.
Dr Foo Chek Siang is a member of the Singapore Society of Obesity and Metabolic Surgery and the International Federation for Obesity and Metabolic Disorders Surgery.
His work covers oesophageal and gastric cancers, as well as bariatric and metabolic operations. He is also a reviewer for the Medical Journal of Singapore and the Surgical Oncology World Journal.
