Dr Ooi Boon Swee is a general surgeon practicing at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital. His clinical experience covers colorectal and anal surgery, including robotic surgery and minimally invasive/keyhole surgery.
Dr Ooi Boon Swee graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1992 with a Bachelor of Medicine, a Bachelor of Surgery and in 1996 became a surgical fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Ireland. He then obtained training in colorectal surgery at the Singapore General Hospital’s Department of Colorectal Surgery (SGH).
Dr Ooi Boon Swee was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship to undergo advanced colorectal surgery training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia in 1998 and then at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, USA in 2002, under the guidance of Professor Victor Fazio and Dr James Church, world-renowned colorectal surgeons.
Formerly, Dr Ooi Boon Swee was the director of minimally invasive surgery, senior advisor to the Department of Colorectal Surgery and the Centre for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and deputy chairman of the Committee on Tripartite Robotic Assisted Surgery. From 2004 to 2005, Dr Ooi was also a visiting senior consultant at the National Cancer Centre and Changi General Hospital (CGH) and an honorary secretary of the Singapore Society of Colorectal Surgeons.
Dr Ooi Boon Swee was an associate professor at the Duke-NUS School of Medicine and a senior lecturer at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
