Education & Experience:
Dr Aneez DB Ahmed is a Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital thoracic surgeon.
He has been a thoracic surgery practitioner, with a special interest in thoracic oncology, for over 15 years.
Dr Aneez DB Ahmed obtained his fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh after completing his cardiothoracic training at the National University Hospital, Singapore.
He previously served in the department of general surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), Singapore, as the head of the thoracic surgery department.
Dr Aneez DB Ahmed’s interest in robotic surgery led him to be recognized by the European College of Cardiothoracic Surgery as the first in the ASEAN cohort to receive a Level III Certificate of Specialist Training in Robotic Thoracic Surgery.
Dr Aneez DB Ahmed now leads the training program for thoracic surgeons in ASEAN and South Asia, with sabbaticals in Europe and the USA for advanced training in robotic thoracic surgery.
In 2016, Dr Aneez became vice president of the Singapore Robotic Surgical Society (RS3) and was subsequently appointed as president of RS3 in 2019.
His particular interest in chest wall surgery led him to specialize in Resection and Reconstruction of the Chest Wall. The world’s earliest 3D Printed Polymer Ribcage Reconstruction was also done by Dr Aneez.
Dr Aneez DB Ahmed is an international member of different thoracic surgical groups. He is also a member of the Thoracic Domain Board of the Asian Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and is the current General Secretary of the Thoracic Surgery Society of South East Asia.
His knowledge and expertise in minimally invasive thoracic surgery led him to numerous invitations to conferences and workshops in the region as a speaker. He also receives referrals from the country’s other hospitals and other regions, such as Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and the U.A.E.
Dr Aneez is passionate about teaching, aside from clinical work. He has been piloting an Advanced Thoracic Nursing Course (ATNC) program at TTSH since 2010, which runs annually to train nurses from across Asia. He is also an instructor for Edinburgh’s Royal College of Surgeons.
