Dr Saw Huat Seong is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon’s Consultant.
Dr Saw Huat Seong graduated from the University of Malaya with an M.B.B.S., and subsequently pursued postgraduate studies in Australia, London and New York. He rose from lecturer to professor on his return to Malaysia, and finally to head of the Department of Surgery at the University of Malaya. He was named Adjunct Professor and the first Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the National University of Singapore when he moved to Singapore.
Dr Saw Huat Seong is a member of many organisations and professional societies. He has earned various awards and distinctions, including the 1979 Sir Frederick Galleghan Award, the 1990 Sarawak Datukship, and the 2003 Sarawak State Silver Medal. He was made an Honorary Fellow of Thailand’s Royal College of Surgeons in 2009. In his rich profile, information dissemination factors heavily. Both at home and abroad, he has written and lectured widely. And he was honored with professorships at Beijing Medical University, Xian Medical University, and the University of Malaysia, Sarawakak, for these activities (UNIMAS).
Dr Saw Huat Seong has worked on a variety of hospital Medical Advisory Boards over the years and has chaired the Tissue Committee, the Medical Advisory Board of Gleneagles Hospital and the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Specialty Board of the Singapore Academy of Medicine.
The only legacy for which he wants to be remembered for all his efforts was his drive to have a Tissue Committee at Mount Elizabeth Hospital. Today, the Ministry of Health in Singapore demands that all hospitals have tissue committees.
