Dr Tan Chong Hiok has experience of conducting stenting and chronic complete occlusion of the left main artery. In patients who have refused or are unsuitable for bypass surgery, he also treats difficult cases.
In interventional cardiology and echocardiology, Dr Tan has dual accreditation and is qualified to perform 2D echo, treadmill stress echo, dobutamine stress echo and trans-oesophageal echocardiography.
Dr Tan Chong Hiok went to Sydney, Australia, in 1999, after completing his cardiology study, to hone his echocardiology skills.
Dr Tan Chong Hiok worked at Changi General Hospital after returning to Singapore, where he pioneered the success of interventions through radial approach. He also underwent interventional cardiology training and spent a year at the Asan Medical Centre, South Korea, one of the world’s experts in left main artery stenting.
Dr Tan Chong Hiok was the director and senior consultant of the Invasive Cardiovascular Laboratory at Changi General Hospital, as well as a visiting senior consultant at the National Heart Centre and Tan Tock Seng Hospital, prior to setting up his private practice.
In the international Chronic Complete Occlusion conference case presentation, Dr Tan won several first prizes.
Dr Tan Chong Hiok is deeply interested in research and teaching and periodically returns to public institutions to oversee, instruct and conduct echo and interventional events. He is an invited member of the faculty at different international conferences.
