- Dr Thia Teck Joo Kelvin is a gastroenterologist practising at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
- His clinical priorities include treating complex diseases of the digestive system, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) (IBD).
- In 2007, he received the Human Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) scholarship from the Ministry of Health, Singapore to train as an advanced fellow at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA under Dr William Sandborn. He engaged in IBD-related studies, which led him to earn the Centocor Inflammatory Bowel Disease Best Abstract Award at the American College of Gastroenterology meeting in 2008 for an original thesis on the natural history of Crohn’s disease.
- Dr Thia Teck Joo Kelvin was formerly a consultant gastroenterologist in the department of gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) (SGH). He treated patients with Crohn’s disease in the department’s IBD centre and supervised gastroenterology trainees, junior doctors and medical students.
- He was named director of the Nutrition Support Services, where he led a team of medical and allied health workers to provide parenteral (through veins) and enteral (through feeding tube) nutrition to patients with malabsorption disorders, such as short bowel syndrome. In 2011, Dr Thia won an award for his clinical work and was also accredited as a nutrition support clinician by the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
- Dr Thia Teck Joo Kelvin won the SingHealth Science Talent Growth Fund Publication award in 2010 and the SingHealth Excellent Publication Award in 2011 for his research publications. He has also been an invited peer reviewer for gastroenterology journals.
- Dr Thia Teck Joo Kelvin was selected to be a clinical mentor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS and a clinical physician faculty member of the Internal Medicine SingHealth residency programme.
