Dr Baskaran M graduated from Dr. MGR Medical University in Chennai in 1995; Diploma in Ophthalmology from Dr. MGR Medical University in Chennai in 1998.
Degree of the National Board of Examinations (DNB) in 1999. PhD Ophthalmology (graduate program) studies at the National University of Singapore, Singapore. He is currently Senior Consultant in the Department of Glaucoma at the Medical Research Foundation.
Formerly Clinician Scientist and Director (Research Clinic) at Singapore Eye Research Institute and Singapore National Eye Centre, Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical Centre, Singapore and Lecturer and Guide Scientist at Elite Optometry School and C U Shah PG Ophthalmology Institute. He has supervised a number of MPhil and PhD students.
More than 200 papers (as author or co-author) have been published in peer-reviewed National and International Journals (H-Index – 49, 2020). He delivered 80+ lectures at different conferences as a guest speaker and attended more than 200 national and international conferences.
Dr Baskaran M has been a clinical investigator for Epidemiology of Glaucoma and Genetics (Chennai Glaucoma Study) and Singapore Epidemiology of Eye Diseases Studies. It has more than 6 patents for glaucoma devices and applications.
Dr Bhaskaran M won the Pfizer Best Paper Award at GSI Ahmedabad Meeting 2005, Best Junior Consultant Award at Sankara Nethralaya in 2005, Best Paper Award at AIOC in New Delhi 2008, Best Paper Award at the Pre-Final Session of Rangachari Award at AIOS in Guwahati in 1999.
Dr Baskaran M won the Outstanding Graduate Student SERI 2012, and the Transition Award, NMRC Singapore 2015-2017, and the prestigious IES Engineering Achievement Award 2015 at Singapore. He was also a member of the World Glaucoma Association’s Affiliate Board between 2014 and 2016 and a member of the Scientific Committee for the South East Asian Glaucoma Congress in 2006.
Research interests: Glaucoma-Angle Closing Glaucoma, IOP and Fixing Factors, Ultrasound Biomicroscopy, Drug Trials, Pre-and Post-Segment Imaging, Devices/Image Processing for Glaucoma – Development and Evaluation, Trabecular meshwork biomechanics, Epidemiology of glaucoma and genetics (Chennai Glaucoma Research, Singapore Epidemiology of Eye Diseases Study, Yoga and Eye).
