Professional Statement

Throughout his 33-year career at UCLA, Dr Christopher T Denny’s greatest creative potential has been in establishing connections across disparate subjects. Utilizing basic molecular biology methods to investigate molecular reasons for what he observes while treating pediatric hematology/oncology patients has contributed significantly to his academic performance. In recent years, he has switched his attention towards creating techniques and instruments with a more direct therapeutic effect. For instance, he contributed to the creation of UCLA Healthcare’s electronic medical record system and continues to be involved in its development. In 2014, he obtained board certification in the newly established speciality of Clinical Informatics. As the program director for the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at UCLA, he designed a voucher system to support and ease the utilization of key services across our four campuses. This initiative was a paradigm change from directly financing cores to supporting investigator-defined programs. In the last year, he has led an initiative to develop a scalable and adaptable genomic library for our Precision Health Institute.
