Experience
- Dr Chuah Yen Seong Benjamin is an oncologist based in Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospitals.
His subspecialty interests include esophageal, gastric, biliary tract, pancreatic, liver (hepatocellular carcinoma), neuroendocrine, and colorectal cancers.
He previously worked as a consultant in the Haematology-Oncology department at the National Cancer Institute Singapore’s National University Hospital. - He was actively involved in postgraduate teaching and research prior to entering private practice. He was the director of postgraduate medical education in medical oncology and a key faculty member of the internal medicine residency program.
He was recognized for his contributions in 2011 with the National University Hospital Postgraduate Teaching Excellence Award. For several years, he was also interested in clinical and translational research, serving as principal investigator or co-investigator on international trials involving the use of experimental and targeted therapy drugs for colorectal and pancreatic cancer.
Dr Chuah earned a NUH Innovative Grant to conduct research on warfarin pharmacogenomics and the inaugural Kobayashi Foundation Award for her work on serial improvements in the expression of breast cancer-related proteins in response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. His dissertation has resulted in many first author publications in high-impact medical and oncology journals, including Gastroenterology, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and Annals of Oncology.
As a clinical cancer specialist and researcher, his research interests include small cell gall bladder cancer with paraneoplastic hyponatremia, the absence of somatic mutations in the VEGFR-2 tyrosine kinase domain in hepatocellular carcinoma, renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer) with bony metastases, and the use of docetaxel (Taxotere) in combination with or without ketoconazole in breast cancer.
