Education & Experience:
At Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore, Dr Ho Kok Sun is a general surgeon.
He specializes in the treatment of colorectal diseases and has a particular interest in colorectal surgery that is minimally invasive, advanced surgical endoscopy such as gastroscopy and colonoscopy, as well as anal diseases such as piles and abscesses.
As well as single keyhole procedures, he conducts minimally invasive or keyhole large intestine and rectum surgeries. He is one of the few surgeons approved to do robotic colorectal surgery in Singapore.
Dr Ho Kok Sun graduated from the National University of Singapore with a bachelor’s degree and completed his training in general surgery in 2002. At the Cleveland Clinic, USA, he went on to seek subspecialty training in colorectal surgery.
He was formerly a senior consultant surgeon at the General Hospital of Singapore (SGH). He has also been appointed director of the Service for Enterostomal Therapy, the Transanal Ultrasound Lab and the Endo-Lap Simulation Centre, and deputy director of the SGH Endoscopy Centre.
Dr Ho Kok Sun was the former president of Singapore’s Society of Colorectal Surgeons. He was also the organizing chairman of 3 major international colorectal conferences and the president of the ASEAN Society of Colorectal Surgeons’ biennial congress in 2014.
Dr Ho Kok Sun is the former president of Singapore’s College of Surgeons and the ASEAN Society of Colorectal Surgeons. He is also chairman of the Faculty of Medical Experts, Academy of Medicine, Singapore, and a member of the Singapore Medical Council and of the Ministry of Health’s Fee Benchmark Advisory Committee. In general surgery, he is an exit examiner, too.
Dr Ho Kok Sun is the vice president of the Singapore-China Science and Technology Development Association and a founding member of the Association of Eurasian Colorectal Technologies.
Dr Ho Kok Sun has performed over 20 animal laparoscopic workshops in the area of laparoscopic surgery and endoscopy to teach overseas surgeons. He has also taught laparoscopic and endoscopic skills using simulation machines to medical students and advanced specialty trainees.
In peer-reviewed journals and books, he has written more than 45 articles. He is also a journalist and is on the editorial board of several newspapers. In countries like China, Indonesia and Vietnam, he has travelled to conduct live surgery demonstrations and teach.
