Education & Experience:

  • Dr Hobbs Christopher, currently practicing at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore, is an ear, nose, throat (ENT) specialist. Thyroid and parathyroid surgery, head & neck cancer, laryngology (swallowing & airway issues, speech disorders and chronic cough), SCUBA diving-related ENT problems, and paediatric ENT are his clinical interests.
  • Under the mentorship of Professor Martin Birchall, one of the world’s leading laryngeal experts, Dr Christopher Hobbs received surgical training in London, Bristol and Birmingham and spent two years as a clinical research fellow. This resulted in the award of the University of Bristol medical doctorate and the Royal College of Surgeons of England Hunterian Professorship.
  • Dr Hobbs Christopher spent two years in Australia, where he completed Advanced Residency training at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney in Head & Neck Surgery and Laryngology/Voice, and Head & Neck Oncology at Melbourne’s Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Dr Hobbs is professionally qualified in paediatric ENT, having operated at The Royal Hospital for Children in Bristol and Birmingham Children’s Hospital in the UK, as well as having considerable experience in adult ENT surgery.
  • In 2009, Dr Hobbs was first hired as a Western Health consultant in Melbourne. Since 2011, he has been practicing in Singapore, first as a consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s Department of Otorhinolaryngology (TTSH), and more recently as Head of the Head & Neck Cancer Service at TTSH. Dr Hobbs has been on the Specialist Registry of the General Medical Council in the UK since 2008, in addition to gaining his Ministry of Health board qualification to practice as an ENT surgeon in Singapore.
  • Dr Hobbs Christopher has further improved his skills in head and neck surgery after being in Singapore by completing advanced training in transoral robotic surgery (TORS) and robotic thyroidectomy in Hong Kong and South Korea. He was subsequently part of the first team at Tan Tock Seng Hospital to conduct TORS. Dr Hobbs is also fully accredited and specialized in laser surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery, coblation and sialoendoscopy techniques.
  • Dr Hobbs Christopher is strongly dedicated to teaching and science. He has written extensively in Australia, Canada, Europe, the USA and the UK on all aspects of otolaryngology/ head & neck surgery and has delivered research articles. Dr Hobbs was responsible for teaching otolaryngology at the Western Hospital Campus at the University of Melbourne during his time in Australia and was shortlisted for the Tutor of the Year Award. Formerly an assistant assistant professor at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, he was also a senior clinical lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
