- In 1995, he earned an MBBS degree from the National University of Singapore. He then pursued a career in ophthalmology, earning an MMED (Ophth) and postgraduate degrees from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2003. (FRCSEd).
- Dr Jacob Cheng Yen Chuan is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specializing in Cataract and Comprehensive Ophthalmology with a subspecialty in Vitreoretinal Diseases. His primary areas of expertise are age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular diseases, hereditary retinal illnesses, and diagnostic visual electrophysiology. Additionally, he has performed multiple advanced small incision cataract (phaco-refractive) operations using wavefront, toric, and multifocal intraocular lenses, as well as femtosecond laser bladeless LASIK and Epi-LASIK treatments.
- Dr Jacob Cheng Yen Chuan also has a special interest in electrophysiology, having trained at the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital under Professor Graham Holder. He has been invited to give lectures and teach workshops on medical retina and retinal imaging at numerous conventions throughout the region. Dr Cheng also works as an adjunct researcher at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI), a clinical instructor at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and a part-time consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC).
- He is participating in a number of groundbreaking drug research projects and collaborates with a number of foreign research institutions. Additionally, he has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers. Dr Cheng was recently appointed to the College of Ophthalmologists’ Vitreo-retina speciality committee and as a delegate to the Ophthalmology Mount Alvernia operation committee. He is also a member of the Medical Advisory Board of Mount Alvernia.
