- Dr Jean Chai is a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist who specializes in comprehensive eye care. Her clinical interests include the following:
- Cataract and general ophthalmology – cataract surgery helped by a femtosecond laser and the usage of premium lenses (toric, multifocal lenses)
- Corneal and external eye illnesses include dry eyes, blepharitis, dysfunction of the meibomian glands, allergic eye diseases, conjunctivitis, infectious keratitis, and pterygium.
- Corneal surgery, involving removal of pterygium
- Implantation of the cornea
- LASIK (Femtosecond) and alternative techniques for refractive surgery
- Dr Jean Chai earned a bachelor’s degree in medicine from the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Faculty of Medicine in 2004 and was named to the Dean’s List for academic excellence. In 2011, she earned a Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) and was elected to the College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Ophthalmology) and the Academy of Medicine of Singapore, Chapter of Ophthalmologists.
- Dr Jean Chai completed her specialist training in ophthalmology at the Singapore National Eye Centre, where she focused on the specialization of Corneal and Refractive surgery. She continued her training in Corneal and Refractive surgery in 2011 through the Healthcare Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) in New York, USA, under the mentorship of Dr Eric Donnenfeld and Dr Henry Perry.
- She has published numerous articles in international journals and book chapters, as well as given lectures at regional and worldwide conferences. Additionally, she received other accolades, including Best House Officer, Service with a Heart, and the 1975 Medical Class book prize.
- She is devoted to education and believes in the importance of shaping the future generation. Prior to entering private practice, she held positions as an Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School, Clinical Senior Lecturer at NUS’s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and Program Director for the SingHealth Ophthalmology Residency Program.
