- Dr Joan Thong Pao Wen is an Obstetrician and Gynecologist who specializes in Reproductive Medicine and Minimally Invasive Surgery. She did her training in these two fields of medicine in Kandang Kerbau Hospital and afterwards in Edinburgh. Dr Thong is a licensed IVF practitioner with the Singapore Ministry of Health. She is an active member of the Raffles Fertility Centre, which offers a full spectrum of fertility treatments, including ovulation induction, superovulation, intrauterine insemination, and cutting-edge in-vitro fertilization with intracytoplasmic injection and embryo cryopreservation. Dr Thong is a highly skilled Reproductive Surgeon who uses highly refined hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgical techniques to restore natural fertility first and foremost by reversing a structural problem.
- Dr Joan Thong Pao Wen is also an expert at utilizing these surgical techniques in conjunction with IUI or IVF to significantly increase the success rate of these two assisted reproductive treatments. Additionally, she has highly developed skills in general gynecological minimally invasive surgery, including the removal of very big uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, and the uterus via keyhole surgery to assist ease patients’ symptoms and avoid gynecological cancers. In July 2003, she was one of a team of Consultant Surgeons involved in the highly successful separation of infant Korean conjoint twin sisters who were linked at the pelvis, the lower end of their spine, the lower end of their intestinal system, and certain sections of their genitalia. Her primary job was in separating and reconstructing the twin girls’ female genitalia in order to restore and permit full function.
