Professional Statement
Dr Kenneth obtained his M.D. from UCSF and his M.P.H. from UCLA. He is a psychiatrist, Senior Scientist at RAND, Professor of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences and Professor of Health Services at the UCLA School of Public Health. He is the director of the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior’s Health Services Research Center, which focuses on enhancing the quality of treatment for mental and neurological illnesses throughout the lifespan. He leads the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Community Partnership Initiative and the NIMH-UCLA/RAND Center for Research on Quality in Managed Care. Additionally, he serves as Co-Director of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation UCLA Clinical Scholars Program and as Chair of the Community Health Improvement Collaborative. Dr. Wells is an elected Institute of Medicine member (IOM). He was the first winner of the Young Investigator Award and the Academy Health Distinguished Investigator Award. In 2006, he was awarded the Research Award by the American Psychiatric Association. His current study focuses on community-based participatory research approaches for the enhancement of mental health care in underserved populations. He has been practicing law for almost 20 years.
