Experience
- Dr Kong Hwai Loong specializes in adult cancer treatment, with a focus on gastrointestinal/liver cancers, breast cancers, and lung cancers. He was an Associate Professor of Medicine / Oncology at the National University Hospital prior to founding HL Kong Medical Oncology Centre in 2005. Additionally, he served as Executive Director of the Singapore Biomedical Research Council and as Deputy Director of the Agency for Science, Technology, and Research (A*STAR).
Dr Kong Hwai Loong earned his medical degree (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore in 1988 and went on to earn a Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) and membership in the United Kingdom’s Royal Colleges of Physicians in 1993. Between 1995 and 1997, he completed a post-graduate medical fellowship at New York Hospital – Cornell Medical Center in the United States of America. He earned his specialist degree in Medical Oncology in 1998 and was elected a fellow of the Singapore Academy of Medicine.
Dr Kong earned a Master of Business Administration in 2002 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States of America. In 2004, he was elected to the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh, UK) as a Fellow. Accolades and Achievements. - Dr Kong has received various international and national honors, including the National Day Award, the Singapore Youth Award, the Singapore Academy of Science Young Scientist Award, and the Merit Award of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
Dr Kong previously served as Chairman of the Chapter of Medical Oncologists and as Deputy Chairman of the Medical Oncology Specialist Training Committee of the Ministry of Health.
