Dr Lau has over 18 years of experience in the sector, having worked in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Singapore. Dr Lau has extensive local and foreign expertise, as well as ongoing scholarly and research endeavors. He received his initial surgical training in the United Kingdom, at hospitals including St Mary’s Hospital in London, the Hospital for Sick Children on Great Ormond Street, and the prestigious Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. In 1996, he was awarded a Fellowship in Otolaryngology by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Dr Lau Pang Cheng David then completed a fellowship in Laryngology and Voice Disorders at the University of British Columbia in Canada from 2000 to 2002, under the tutelage of Professor Murray Morrison, a world-renowned laryngologist. In 2002, he earned a Master of Surgery degree from the University of British Columbia, capping his time in Vancouver. - Dr Lau Pang Cheng David returned to Singapore and founded the Singapore General Hospital’s Voice Clinic (SGH). He is globally renowned as a leading laryngologist in the field. He founded and directed the first SGH ENT Laser Workshops in 2008 and 2012, the first trans-nasal esophagoscopy workshop in 2008, and the Multidisciplinary Management of Dysphagia and Swallowing workshop in 2010, in addition to several other workshops and seminars for general practitioners and other ENT specialists.
Dr Lau Pang Cheng David has delivered numerous research papers at national, regional, and international otolaryngology meetings and has been recognized for his clinical and research work, including at the prestigious COSM meeting in the United States of America. He has also written extensively in a variety of articles and journals, including the Laryngoscope, Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Clinical Otolaryngology, and Head & Neck. He previously served as a senior clinical lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and is currently on the examining board for the Master of Medicine and Academy of Medicine Otolaryngology exams. He continues to conduct cross-disciplinary research and teach.
Dr Lau Pang Cheng David is particularly interested in two subspecialty areas: nasal allergy and sinus disorders. Dr Lau studied endoscopic sinus surgery techniques under pioneer Prof Heinz Stammberger early in his ENT career and collaborated with Dr Robin Youngs, one of the pioneers of endoscopic sinus surgery in the United Kingdom. He received his training in Singapore at the Singapore General Hospital under internationally renowned endoscopic sinus surgeon Professor DS Sethi. He has co-directed a variety of sinus surgery courses and researched on clinical aspects of sinus disorders. He is also responsible for the establishment of the SGH’s ENT allergy service. Dr Lau has extensive experience performing endoscopic sinus surgery, including revision surgery, image-guided surgery, and, most recently, minimally invasive balloon sinuplasty.
Dr Lau Pang Cheng David treats adults and children with ear, nose, and throat disorders. He has extensive experience managing a wide variety of ENT conditions, including nasal allergies, nasal polyps, sinus disorders, nasopharyngeal cancer screening, snoring and sleep apnoea, hearing loss, tinnitus, and dizziness, acute and chronic ear disease, neck lumps, including thyroid nodules and salivary gland disorders, and multidisciplinary management of head and neck canker.
Dr David Lau specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the throat, larynx, speech, and swallowing, including sore throats, tonsillitis, chronic coughs, globus pharyngeus, chronic laryngitis, irritable larynx, hoarseness, skilled and performing voice, swallowing problems, and breathing difficulties. He specializes in voice surgery, including office-based laryngeal surgery, botulinum toxin injections in the larynx, office-based and surgical treatment of vocal fold paralysis, and laryngeal microsurgery and laser surgery.
