Education & Experience:
Dr Lee Yeow Hian is a respiratory doctor practicing at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital.
He specializes in sleep medicine, as well as in intensive care medicine, where he treats sleep problems and disorders. He is one of the few experts in sleep medicine approved by the Singapore Ministry of Health.
Dr Lee Yeow Hian graduated from the Queen’s University of Belfast, UK, with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, in 1997. In the United Kingdom, he received basic medical training and later became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom. Dr Lee then embarked on advanced training at the Alexandra Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) in Singapore in respiratory medicine.
At the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research in Sydney, Australia, Dr Lee was awarded the Health Manpower Development Program (HMDP) award for training in sleep medicine, where he studied under Professor Ron Grunstein, an expert in the field. In 2007, Dr. Lee received a Master’s degree in Sleep Medicine from the University of Sydney, where he collaborated with Professor Colin Sullivan, another dean in the field.
Dr Lee Yeow Hian was previously the chief physician-in-charge of the Alexandra Hospital sleep laboratory and subsequently at TTSH. He was also a consultant at TTSH’s Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, where he played a key role in the growth of his sleep services. He continues to be a visiting consultant at both TTSH and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, and heads the sleep services.
Dr Lee Yeow Hian also trains sleep physicians and technologists in the area, in addition to being a teacher in intensive care medicine under the Joint Committee on Specialist Training in Singapore. Dr Lee was also invited to speak at major international and regional scientific conferences, such as the Sleep Apnoea World Congress in Seoul in 2009.
