Dr Liew Kay Choon Reginald is equipped with traditional and 3D mapping systems in cardiac electrophysiology (EP) procedures such as catheter ablation (radiofrequency energy that rectifies abnormal heart rhythm). He also conducts implantations of cardiac equipment, such as cardiac pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) and devices for cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT).
At Cambridge University, and Guy’s and St Thomas’ College, he undertook his medical studies, graduating with distinction. He earned a PhD from Imperial College London, where he researched the effects of estrogen on the heart, and was educated in cardiology at the Royal Brompton Hospital and in cardiac arrhythmias at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and St George’s Hospital in the United Kingdom.
Dr Liew Kay Choon Reginald was interested in the field of problems with heart rhythm and was involved in some of the early clinical trials in the UK that validated the use of 3D mapping systems for the treatment of complex problems with heart rhythm.
Dr Liew Kay Choon Reginald was a former senior consultant and deputy director of the National Heart Centre’s research and development unit, where he contributed to the development of the research programme, especially in the fields of cardiac arrhythmias and stem cell use in cardiovascular disease. Atrial fibrillation, cardiac risk assessment, and sudden cardiac death are among his research interests. He is also a member of the Singapore Heart Foundation study committee and the Asian Pacific Heart Rhythm Society’s basic science committee.
Dr Liew Kay Choon Reginald is a keen health educator and has mentored cardiologists in Singapore and in countries such as the UK to conduct cardiac EP procedures, and in neighboring countries he regularly provides EP cases.
