- Dr Liew Kay Choon Reginald is a cardiologist practicing in Singapore’s Gleneagles and Mount Elizabeth hospitals.
He has received training in cardiac electrophysiology (EP) procedures such as catheter ablation (radiofrequency energy used to correct irregular heart rhythms) using both traditional and 3D mapping systems. Additionally, he implants medical devices such as cardiac pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), and cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) devices.
He received his medical education at Cambridge University and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, where he graduated with honors. He earned a PhD from Imperial College London, where he studied the effects of oestrogens on the heart, and completed cardiology training at the Royal Brompton Hospital in the United Kingdom, as well as subspecialty training in cardiac arrhythmias at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and St George’s Hospital. - Dr Liew Kay Choon Reginald has been active in the field of heart rhythm disorders, participating in some of the early clinical trials in the United Kingdom that validated the use of 3D mapping systems to treat complex heart rhythm disorders.
Dr Liew Kay Choon Reginald was previously a senior consultant and deputy director of the National Heart Centre’s research and development unit, where he assisted in the development of the research program, especially in the areas of cardiac arrhythmias and the use of stem cells in cardiovascular disease. Atrial fibrillation, cardiac risk assessment, and sudden cardiac death are among his research interests. He is also a member of the Singapore Heart Foundation’s study committee and the Asian Pacific Heart Rhythm Society’s basic science committee.
He is an active health instructor, having mentored cardiologists in Singapore and in countries such as the United Kingdom in conducting cardiac EP procedures, and proctors EP cases in neighboring countries on a regular basis.
