Dr Lim Chun Leng Michael is a cardiologist who works at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital. With vast expertise in computerized tomography (CT) imaging and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of heart arteries in place of intrusive tests, he specializes in interventional cardiology.
Dr Lim Chun Leng Michael graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1984 and graduated from the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom with a Master of Medicine in Singapore (UK). When it was first founded in 1989, he was in the pioneer group of physicians who created the cardiac department at the National University Hospital. He was Singapore’s first cardiologist to be sent to the USA for a fellowship in interventional radiology/cardiology.
A pioneer in the stenting of the carotid artery and having done the first in Asia in 1995, Dr. Lim also devotes time to study. In local, regional and international journals and conferences, Dr Lim has more than 70 publications. In peer-reviewed journals, he has published several science articles.
In the journal Clinical Radiology, Dr Lim published one of the first papers in Asia showing a highly accurate diagnosis using CT imaging of the heart arteries, which won him a certificate for being the author of one of the Top 10 cited papers published in Clinical Radiology, a prestigious international publication of the United Kingdom’s Royal College of Radiologists.
Dr Lim Chun Leng Michael also published the world’s first paper on the use of CT driven angioplasty and stenting, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), demonstrating that complex heart artery disease was stented safely without major complications.
Dr Lim Chun Leng Michael’s latest main appointments include being the Singapore Heart, Stroke & Cancer Centre’s Medical Director and a Fudan University professor. He is also the founding editor of the prestigious British Medical Journal (BMJ) Publishing Group’s Heart Asia, a journal. Named Emeritus President of the Asia Pacific Heart Association, he currently serves as Vice-President of both the World Association of Chinese Doctors and the World Federation of Chinese Cardiovascular Doctors.
