At Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore, Dr Lim Yeong Phang is a cardiothoracic surgeon.

Dr Lim Yeong Phang is experienced with interventional cardiologists in conducting minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass (MIDCAB) through the chest wall without cutting through any bone, as well as hybrid coronary revascularization (a mixture of surgical bypass and percutaneous stenting).

Dr Lim Yeong Phang was formerly a medical officer in the Air Force of the Republic of Singapore. He decided to specialize in surgery and entered the Singapore General Hospital’s cardiothoracic surgery department in 1998, and was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) fellowship to the Cleveland Clinic, USA in 2005, where he specialized in congenital heart surgery.

Dr Lim Yeong Phang was appointed a consultant at the National Heart Centre (NHC) and subsequently a senior consultant when he returned to Singapore in 2006. He was also named as the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital visiting consultant.

As a beneficiary of the SingHealth Talent Creation Scheme in 2007, he spent 3 months at Wuhan Asia Heart Hospital in China.

Dr Lim Yeong Phang founded the National Cardiovascular Homograft Bank at NHC with his colleagues in 2008 through a grant from the Ministry of Health, Singapore, and serves as its medical director. Dr Lim was named director of the cardiac operating theatre at NHC in 2012.

In Singapore, Dr Lim encouraged the use of Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) and was co-director of the NHC ECMO program. As part of the 17th SGH Annual Scientific Conference, he arranged an ECMO Symposium and organized preparation for intensivists, respiratory physicians and cardiologists during the 2009 H5N1 pandemic.

Dr Lim Yeong Phang is a member of the International Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery Society, the Asian Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons, the Singapore Cardiac Society and the Singapore Academy of Medicine Chapter of Cardiothoracic Surgeons.

He has served as President of the Health Lifestyle Committee of the NHC.

Dr Lim has also worked as an adjunct assistant professor on the teaching faculty of the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School since 2009, and lectures on the Advanced Diploma Nursing Course at Nanyang Polytechnic.
