Education & Experience:
Dr Loh Boon Kwang is an ophthalmologist who specialises in cataract and refractive surgery. He has distinguished himself as the first locally-recognised vitrector with his sub-specialisation in the care of both adult and paediatric vitreous and retina conditions.
After receiving his Medical degree from the National University of Singapore, Dr Loh pursued his ophthalmology specialist training and sub-specialist training in Vitreo-Retinal disorders and diseases at the Singapore National Eye Centre. Under a Singapore Government scholarship, Dr Loh has sought specialized sub-specialist training in both adult and paediatric Vitreous and Retina conditions in the United States and in the United Kingdom.
Until practicing privately, Dr Loh Boon Kwang was a consultant ophthalmologist at the Singapore National Eye Centre and the Singapore National Eye Centre’s Divisions of Vitreo-Retinal and General Cataract and Extensive Surgery. He has managed and introduced the creation of the Paediatric Retina Service at SNEC since 2011. Dr Loh’s experience in both adult and paediatric vitreous and retina disorders is highly respected nationally and locally, and she has been invited to talk at national and international meetings.
Dr Loh Boon Kwang is especially interested in vitreo-retinal disorders and diseases and is an adjunct researcher at the Singapore Eye Research Institute. He is the editor-in-chief of a peer-reviewed medical journal and an authority in ophthalmology. He has been consulted by the media to educate the public on health issues like eye disorders and conditions. Dr Loh is also affiliated with a variety of professional societies, including the American Society of Retinal Specialists, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Association of Paediatric Retina Surgeons (USA).
Dr Loh Boon Kwang’s clinical interests include general eye treatment, cataract surgery, adult retinal conditions such as retinal detachment, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and myopia-related conditions and complex, advanced paediatric conditions such as retinopathy of prematurity, familial exudative vitreo-retinopathy, and retinal detachment in infants.
