Biodata
- Dr Loh Poh Yen earned a bachelor’s degree in 1999 from the University of Malaya. He had his primary medical training in Malaysia and then earned membership in the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP) and a Master of Medicine from the National University of Singapore in 2006. He completed his speciality studies in gastrointestinal and advanced internal medicine in Singapore. Dr Loh has established himself as one of the few doctors in Singapore to be approved by the Ministry of Health and recognised as a specialist in two fields of medicine. With a background in gastroenterology and advanced internal medicine, he is skilled at addressing complex gastrointestinal and general medical disorders that are frequently interconnected and require a comprehensive approach to care. He is particularly interested in the treatment of patients with severe liver disorders. This led to him subsequent training at Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital under Professor Chen Chao Long, a pioneer in living donor liver transplantation. The hospital is Asia’s biggest provider of living donor liver transplantation.
- After completing his training, Dr Loh Poh Yen worked as a consultant at Changi General Hospital. He continued to treat people suffering from gastroenterological and other medical disorders. He lent his experience to the coordination of care for patients with severe liver illnesses at Singapore’s transplant centers and was essential in the establishment of Changi General Hospital’s liver clinic, which handled the majority of viral hepatitis C patients in Singapore. Dr Loh Poh Yen is accessible and fluent in a number of languages (English, Mandarin, Malay, Hokkien, Cantonese). As a result, he is well-liked by his patients and has previously received multiple accolades for his service excellence from the institutions. He was also actively involved in training young doctors, serving as a clinical senior lecturer to medical students at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and as a key faculty member of the Singhealth senior residency program for young gastroenterologists.
