  • At Parkway East Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital, and Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore, Dr Ng Choon Yong Alvin is a respiratory medic and intensivist.
  • In addition to intrusive artificial ventilation for ICU patients, he has particular interests in obstructive airway diseases such as asthma and COPD. He believes passionately in providing his patients with personalized, patient-centered care.
  • In 1996, Dr Ng Choon Yong Alvin won a medical scholarship from the Singapore Armed Forces to study medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He graduated from NUS in 2001 and started training in internal medicine, becoming both a respiratory medicine specialist and an intensive care medicine specialist.
  • Prior to his private practice, he served as a consultant at the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine of Changi General Hospital and held the position of Deputy Director of the Unit of Medical Intensive Care. Dr. Alvin Ng was also a Singapore Armed Forces Lieutenant Colonel and his last appointment was a Medical Classification Centre (MCC) Commanding Officer in charge of PES (Physical Job Status) assignments for all staff of the SAF and Mindef. As the Singapore Armed Forces Expert on Respiratory and Intensive Care Medicine, he holds the title and qualification.
  • Dr Ng Choon Yong Alvin believes in educating the next generation of clinical doctors and worked as the SAF Medical Training Institute’s Deputy Commander, overseeing all the SAF’s medical training. He was formerly the medical director of the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Centre of the Singapore Armed Forces and is currently the medical director of the St John Singapore National Emergency Medical Technician Course Association.
  • He was the president of the Intensive Care Medicine Society, as well as the vice president of the Thoracic Society of Singapore. He was also a member of the Executive Committee of the Intensivist Chapter at the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
  • Dr Ng Choon Yong Alvin is currently a volunteer in the Singapore St. John Brigade and holds the appointment of Deputy Chief Surgeon.
  • Dr Ng Choon Yong Alvin also has several teaching positions, including Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor, Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Instructor, Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) Instructor, Intensive Care Basic Evaluation and Support (BASIC) Instructor, and EuSim Advance Medical Training Simulation Instructor. He previously held teaching positions in the Core Faculty of Respiratory Medicine, Internal Medicine Physician Faculty, Intensive Care Medicine Subspecialty Faculty, as well as the NUS Undergraduate Clinical Faculty at Changi General Hospital.
  • In overseas peacekeeping operations as well as disaster relief efforts, Dr Alvin Ng has worked. He was awarded the United Nations Peace Keeping Medal as well as the Letter of Commendation from the United Nations Force Commander for services rendered to the United Nations Mission in Support of East Timor as part of the medical team.
  • In order to encourage intensive care medicine and respiratory medicine activities in Singapore, Dr Alvin Ng believes strongly in contributing to the community and continues to be involved in both the Society of Intensive Care Medicine (SICM) and the Singapore Thoracic Society (STS). He was also the organizing chairman of the SGANZICS Asia Pacific Intensive Care Forum 2017, which aims to promote the Intensive Care Medicine of Low Income Countries and to share ideas and best practices between Western countries and Asia.
