Education & Experience:
Dr Ong Hean Yee works at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore, as a cardiologist. In the fields of cardiac screening, lipidemia, exercise monitoring, heart failure and advanced cardiac imaging, he has special clinical and academic interests.
Dr Ong Hean Yee is a highly experienced clinician with over 20 years of clinical experience in public hospitals, including 7 years in the United Kingdom’s National Health Service and 15 years in Singapore’s public hospitals.
Dr Ong Hean Yee graduated in 1994 from Queen’s Belfast University, UK. He was admitted to the Royal College of Physicians in 1998 and served from 1998 to 2000 as a research fellow at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast. He completed his advanced specialty training in cardiology at the National University Hospital, Singapore, in 2004, and became a Fellow in Advanced Cardiac Imaging at the Cleveland Clinic, USA, on a Singapore Ministry of Health (MOH) Human Manpower Development Program (HMDP) scholarship in 2006. In the same year, he received his board certification in echocardiography (ASCeXAM).
In 2007, Dr Ong set up the Cardiology Division at Alexandra Hospital, which expanded into a department in 2010. In 2010, he was appointed Head of the Cardiology Department at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH). The department quickly developed facilities such as electrophysiology, nuclear cardiology, echocardiography, heart failure, cardiac rehabilitation, percutaneous coronary intervention and clinical research, under his leadership at KTPH and with the support of his team of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.
Dr Ong Hean Yee is a senior clinical lecturer and a core faculty member of the NHG-AHPL Cardiology Residency Program at the National University of Singapore. Several international cardiology societies have welcomed him as a guest. Since 1998, he has been involved in and led several industry and clinical research studies initiated by researchers.
Dr. Ong is on the Domain Specific Review Board, which governs clinical trials’ ethical actions. He is currently both the Vice President of the Cardiology Chapter and the Vice President of the Cardiac Society of Singapore. In 2014, he was elected Chairman of the Treadmill Licensing Committee of the MOH and was part of the Writing Committee on Good Clinical Practice in Heart Failure of the MOH.
Dr Ong Hean Yee is a member of the Singapore Ireland Foundation, a voluntary organization that has supported young people with special needs, among others, and Elder Care in Singapore. He has strong ties with Ireland’s Singapore Medical Society and helps organize local fellowships in Ireland for Singaporeans.
