- Dr Ong Kian Chung is a respiratory doctor practicing at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital. He specializes in intensive care medicine and treats respiratory conditions such as sleep apnoea, bronchitis, wheezing, asthma, shortness of breath, and lung cancer, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
- Dr Ong Kian Chung graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery. He then completed further training at the Stanford University Medical Centre, USA, as a fellow in the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He was also a visiting clinical and research fellow at the Stanford Centre for Sleep Sciences and Medicine, USA.
Dr Ong Kian Chung is also a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP).
Formerly a senior respiratory specialist at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), Dr. Ong was a visiting consultant at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH), Singapore National Heart Centre and St Luke’s Hospital. He was a clinical lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin Medical School, NUS, as well. - Dr Ong Kian Chung is the president of the Association of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (Singapore) and is recognized as its representative in Singapore by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD). The establishment of innovative treatment approaches, such as pulmonary rehabilitation, non-invasive ventilation and hospital-at-home services for patients with chronic respiratory disorders in Singapore, are among his clinical achievements.
- Sleep-related breathing disturbances, pulmonary function and exercise monitoring and disease control in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are the research priorities of Dr Ong (COPD). More than 70 scientific articles and abstracts have been published in peer-reviewed technical journals, such as CHEST, the European Respiratory Journal and the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and his research findings are regularly discussed at major scientific conferences.
- Dr Ong Kian Chung is also a reviewer for the CHEST, Respirology and Singapore Medical Journal journals, and was formerly a Medical Digest editor. He is currently the co-editor-in-chief of the journal’s Asia column, Update in Respiratory Technology and Applied Technology. He’s also a member of the journal’s editorial board, Clinical Medicine: Case Studies.
