Dr Ong Kim Kiat graduated from the National University of Singapore with an MBBS and obtained postgraduate training and an HMDP fellowship in Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgical Training, Neonatal Cardiac Surgery and Arrhythmia Surgery.
In the 1980s, when he was attached to the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Dr Ong Kim Kiat founded the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Training Programme at Singapore General Hospital. Dr. Ong was named Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Hospital from 1992-1995. From 1996 to 1997, Dr Ong Kim Kiat was appointed Deputy Director of the Singapore Heart Centre (currently known as the National Heart Centre). At the moment, he is the Head of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at K.K. Hospital for Women and Children. He is also a consultant at the Singapore Cardiothoracic Centre at Mount Elizabeth Hospital and a visiting consultant at the National Heart Centre at the National University Hospital for cardiothoracic surgery. He is also a visiting consultant at JPMC Jerutong Hospital in Brunei at the moment.
Pediatric Heart Surgery and Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery are Dr. Ong’s clinical priorities.
