DR PRASAD K WAGLE has worked at Lilavati Hospital for the past 17 years. Over the last 27 years, he has treated a huge number of patients with obstructive jaundice, both benign and malignant. He has performed over 1500 major hepatobiliary and pancreatic procedures, including liver resections for malignant and benign illnesses, hepatico-jejunostomies for benign and malignant bile duct strictures, and bile duct injuries after cholecystectomy. Pancreatic debridement for necrosis, Whipple’s Pancreaticoduodenectomies for periampullary and pancreatic malignancies, including vascular resections and reconstructions, surgeries for chronic pancreatitis, including head coring (Freys), and The Beger’s procedures for inflammatory pancreatic head masses
DR PRASAD K WAGLE earned his bachelor’s degree from T.N.Medical College and B.Y.L.Nair Hospital in Mumbai and his master’s degree from the same institution in 1993. For a year, he worked at the same Institute as a Senior Registrar in G.I.Surgery. He also spent a year as a Registrar in Oncosurgery at the Tata Memorial Hospital in 1995. In 1996, he returned to Nair Hospital as a Lecturer, and in 1998, he became a Clinical Fellow at the University of Hamburg Hospital in Germany, where he worked in the Pancreatic and Liver Units, as well as transplant operations.
DR PRASAD K WAGLE was awarded a Fellowship in Living Donor Liver Transplantation by The Asan Medical Centre in Seoul, Korea, in 2006, which is the world’s largest LDLT program. In 2006, he was a Visiting Fellow at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Liver Unit in Birmingham, UK. From 2018 to 2019, he was the HOD of Liver Surgery at Nanavati Hospital.
He has presented talks at both national and international events. He has been an invited international faculty member at the International IHPBA congresses in Seoul, Shanghai, and Melbourne. He’s also participated in workshops where he demonstrated liver and pancreatic procedures. He has around 20 articles to his credit, with about ten of them appearing in peer-reviewed journals. Since 1997, he has been a founding member of the International Hepato Pancreato Biliary Association’s Indian Chapter.
