Dr Quek Swee San Susan is a private practice consultant cardiologist at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre and Hospital. She is also the cardiologist’s visiting consultant at the National Heart Centre and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
Her specific interest is in the field of cardiac ultrasound, and here in Singapore, she is one of the early pioneers in this subspecialty, having studied at the National Heart Centre in London and the University of Stanford and Mayo Clinic in the United States.
Dr Quek Swee San Susan led the Cardiac Ultrasound Division of the Department of Cardiology at the Singapore General Hospital from the beginning and was Acting Head of Cardiology from 1994 until 1995, when Dr Quek Swee San Susan left Mount Elizabeth Hospital for private practice. She welcomed the latter’s invitation to set up both in- and out-patients with its Non-invasive Cardiac Laboratory catering, and has since continued to run it on a regular basis as Director of Echocardiography.
To date, Dr Quek Swee San Susan continues to educate and train physicians and cardiac technicians in this area and conducts and supervises traditional echocardiographic studies of transthoracic, transesophageal and exercise and pharmacological tension.
