In 1993, Dr Rama Rajagopal received her medical graduate degree from Stanley Medical College, University of Madras, Chennai.
Diploma in Ophthalmology from the C.U.Shah Postgraduate Training Centre, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, April 1994 to April 1996, Diplomate of the National Board of Ophthalmology in December 1998, and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, September 2002. In September 2004, she completed a one-year research fellowship at the Schepens Eye Research Institute in Boston.
