- He also performs other invasive procedures like Permanent pacemaker and AICD (Defibrillator) implantation, implantable loop recorder, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) insertion, right and left heart catheterisation, Right ventricular (RV) biopsy and transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE). He had full Echo accreditation from British Society of Echocardiography from 2008- 2013.
Biodata
- Dr Refai Showkathali traveled to the United Kingdom for additional training after completing his medical degree in India. He trained in Cardiology at World-Class Tertiary Cardiac Centers such as St. Bartholomew’s Hospital (London), Imperial College Hospital (previously Hammersmith Hospital, London), St George’s Hospital (London), The Essex Cardiothoracic Surgeon Centre (Essex), and King’s College Hospital (London) (London). He returned to India after 14 years of specialized study in advanced interventional cardiology and four years of practice in India. Dr Refai Showkathali is currently practicing medicine at Chennai’s Apollo Main Hospital on Greams Road.
- Dr Refai Showkathali is currently a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London (FRCP, London), the American College of Cardiology (FACC), and the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) (FESC). He is an Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians’ PACES examination, which is administered by the Royal College of Physicians in London. Additionally, he is a “Professor” at the Apollo Hospital Educational and Research Foundation.
