Work Experience
- Dr Sampath Chandra Prasad Rao is an Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgeon Consultant who specializes in Skull Base Surgeries and Hearing Implantology. Dr. Rao completed his master’s degree at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore (Manipal University), where he was named the top graduating student. He is a member of both the European Board of Examinations and the European Academy of Otology and Neurotology. He received the British Annual Congress in Otolaryngology (BACO) fellowship twice, the Birla Smarak Kosh Fellowship and the GSE fellowship from Rotary International, as well as the Ten Outstanding Indians Award from Junior Chamber International (JCI). He completed a two-year fellowship in Skull Base Surgeries, Hearing Implantology, and Advanced Otology at the Casa Di Cura Piacenza (Italy) Skull Base unit and was awarded Fellowship of the European Academy of Neurotology (EAONO). He spent a total of six and a half years in Italy with Mario Sanna, Jacques Magnan, and Paolo Castelnuovo, gaining extensive training in Skull Base Surgery.
- Dr Sampath Chandra Prasad Rao has approximately 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers (h index of 19), 15 chapters in several textbooks, and one textbook by Thieme International on Cochlear and other Auditory Implants. He received the award for Best Paper at the 2013 Politzer Society Meeting. In 2019, Dr. Rao received an honorary Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a visiting Professorship at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the largest university in Asia. At the World Federation of Skull Base Societies and European Skull Base Congresses, he is an invited faculty member. In addition, he was awarded the Dr. GS Grewal Oration at the 71st Annual Congress of the Association of Otolaryngologists of India AOICON in 2018, the Prof. Allaudin Memorial Oration at the 17th National Conference of ORLHNS 2019 of the Society of Otolaryngologists & Head Neck Surgeons of Bangladesh, the Karnataka ENT Oration at the 37th Karnataka State ENT Conference AOIKCON 2019, and the Prof He has been invited to the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies’ (WFNS) Skull Base Courses and the National Conferences of the Italian, Egyptian, Turkish, Saudi, Bangladeshi, United Arab Emirates, and Indian societies. In India, he has pioneered numerous novel approaches to skull base surgery. He founded World Skull Base, an international organization and non-governmental organization. The WSB Fellowship Diplomas in Skull Base Surgery given by World Skull Base in Bangalore are the first curriculum-based, university-accredited skull base courses in India.
