- Since January 2007, Dr SAURABH MISRA has been a Consultant Gastrointestinal, Minimal Access (Laparoscopic surgery), Metabolic, and Bariatric Surgeon at the Apollo Hospitals in Bangalore.
- Since 1998, he has been performing Minimal Access surgery and has over 8000 independent laparoscopic surgeries to his credit, including routine surgeries like laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic appendectomies, and laparoscopic hernia surgeries, as well as expertise in advanced hernia care and other advanced surgeries like laparoscopic weight loss procedures (Bariatric surgeries), laparoscopic spleen, adrenal, hepato-biliary, pancreatic,
- Dr SAURABH MISRA serves on the executive council of the Hernia Society of India, representing South India.
- Currently, he serves as faculty for HSI (Hernia society of India), APHS (Asia Pacific hernia society), and AWR (Abdominal wall repair), the international association dedicated to difficult hernia repair surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction. Additionally, he serves as professor at the OSSI ( Obesity society of India ).
- After completing his MBBS at JLN Medical College in Ajmer, Rajasthan, he pursued his Masters in Surgery at Rabindra Nath Tagore Medical College in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Subsequently, he received Advanced Laparoscopic training at the renowned Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi. In 2005, he completed his Bariatric surgery training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, under Dr. Jeff Thompson (Chairman, Surgery).
- Dr SAURABH MISRA was the first surgeon in the state to do Obesity and other advanced laparoscopic procedures. Dr SAURABH MISRA was the Consultant and Chief of the General and Minimal Access Surgery Department at Apollo Hospitals, Goa. He was also an Assistant Professor at the Mahatma Gandhi National Institute of Medical Sciences in Jaipur, where he developed the Minimal Access Department, before joining the Global hospital and research centre in Mount Abu as consultant and head for a brief time.
- SMILS (Single Site Multi Incision Laparoscopic Surgery) is a novel type of laparoscopic surgery that he created; a 2013 article in the Journal of Minimal Access Surgery describes it. Ongoing research is being conducted in this area.
- In 2010, Dr SAURABH MISRA was invited to the Shanghai, China round table hernia congress on mesh materials. (only five surgeons from India were invited)
- Dr SAURABH MISRA received an Honor Fellowship from the Asia Pacific Hernia Society. Johnson and Johnson, USA, named a member of the Ethicon Surgery Training Institute’s teaching faculty as a consultant in 2011.
- Karnataka Medical Association invited him to Hubli in 2014 to deliver a Guest Lecture on metabolic surgery.
- In 2015, Dr SAURABH MISRA was appointed as Proctor for teaching laparoscopic and Hernia surgery to aspiring surgeons by Medtronic, USA, and he was inaugurated as the Member EC for the south zone of HSI ( Hernia society of India )
- In 2015, he led the PACE program with Medtronic USA for aspiring young surgeons in Mumbai and Bangalore.
- In 2017, he served as instructor for the Asia-Pacific Hernia Society in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
- Since 2016, he has pioneered a procedure called (Laparoscopic) e-TEP Rives Stoppa repair (extended view totally extra peritoneal hernia repair) for Ventral hernia and has performed the most of these surgeries in India.
- This minimal access procedure for hernia repair not only minimizes pain and costs, but it also heals the abdominal wall, so strengthening the abdominal muscles and minimizing back pain and the unsightly abdominal bulge that typically arises after pregnancy. Dr. Saurabh Misra has delivered papers on the aforementioned procedure at Tokyo, Japan (2016), New Delhi, India (2017), Kaohsiung, Taiwan (2017), and at the AWR conference in Delhi (2018). In 2019, he taught for the AWR group in Kolkatta and IAGES in Bubaneshwer.
