- Dr Soh I Peng Thomas is an oncologist in Singapore, where he practices at Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital.
His subspecialty interests include gastrointestinal cancers (esophageal, gastric, colon, and rectal) and hepatobiliary cancer (liver, pancreas, bile duct and gall bladder cancer). Additionally, he is a cancer surgeon who specializes in neuroendocrine cancers.
He previously worked as a consultant at National University Hospital’s (NUH) Department of Haematology-Oncology and as a visiting consultant at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. - Dr Soh I Peng Thomas was actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education, serving as core faculty for both the Internal Medicine and Oncology Senior Residency programs at NUH from 2012 to 2016. He was awarded the Teaching Excellence Award by the National University Cancer Institute (NCIS) in 2014 and the Best Tutor Award by the University Medical Cluster at NUH in 2015 for undergraduate teaching.
Dr Soh I Peng Thomas is committed to providing high-quality healthcare and has led or co-led many healthcare reform programs. He won several awards for his contributions to the Clinical Practice Improvement Programs he established at NUH.
From 2013 to 2015, he served as honorary secretary of the Singapore Society of Oncology’s executive committee.
Dr Soh is actively interested in cancer medicine research and education. He was funded by the National Medical Research Council and was a three-time recipient of the Clinical Investigator Salary Support Program (CISSP) grant. He had conducted studies on drug reaction and toxicity in cancer treatment, gaining an understanding of how chemotherapy and targeted medications are absorbed and cleared in the body in terms of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. He had previously conducted research on the effect of genetic variants on chemotherapy in Asian breast cancer patients.
He served as the principal investigator for many multicenter gastrointestinal cancer clinical trials, and his study has resulted in over ten publications in high-impact medical and oncology journals. He was the principal investigator for research on circulating tumor cells and was also conducting hepatocellular cancer trials (hepatoma).
He was the principal investigator for research involving Gemcitabine, Masitinib, and Abraxane in advanced pancreatic cancer.
