Education & Experience:

Dr Soh I Peng Thomas works at Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore, as an oncologist.

Gastrointestinal cancer (oesophageal, gastric, colon and rectal cancer) and hepatobiliary cancer are his main interests (liver, pancreas, bile duct and gall bladder cancer). He is also a cancer nurse who works for patients with tumors that are neuroendocrine.
He was previously a consultant at the National University Hospital’s Department of Hematology-Oncology (NUH) and a visiting consultant at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

Dr Soh I Peng Thomas was actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate education and, from 2012 to 2016, was the central faculty for both the Internal Medicine Residency program and the Oncology Senior Residency program at NUH. He won the National University Cancer Institute (NCIS) Teaching Excellence Award in 2014 and the Best Tutor Award in 2015 from the University Medical Cluster at NUH for undergraduate teaching.

Dr Soh I Peng Thomas believes in delivering affordable healthcare, and has been the leader and co-leader of many initiatives to improve healthcare. For his participation in the Clinical Practice Development Programmes he had introduced for NUH, he won numerous awards.

He played a leading role as the honorary secretary of the Singapore Society of Oncology’s executive committee from 2013 to 2015.

Dr Soh I Peng Thomas is actively engaged in both cancer medicine research and education. He obtained funding from the National Medical Research Council for his work and received 3 awards from the Clinical Investigator Salary Support Program (CISSP). He studied drug reaction and toxicity in the treatment of cancer, understanding how the body absorbs and cleanses chemotherapy and targeted medicine in relation to pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. In Asian breast cancer patients, he has published on genetic variants affecting chemotherapy.

In many multicentre gastrointestinal cancer clinical trials, he was the principal investigator and his academic work has contributed to more than 10 publications in high-impact medical and oncology journals. He was the principal investigator of circulating tumor cell research and was also active in hepatocellular cancer trials (hepatoma).

He was the principal investigator for trials using Gemcitabine, Masitinib and Abraxane for advanced pancreatic cancer.
