- Dr Sridhar Baratan spent ten years as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Medical Research Foundation, Sankara Nethralaya, where he was responsible for the construction and operation of a tertiary level Center of Excellence in Cataract Surgery and Community Ophthalmology in a South Chennai suburb (the Rural Eye Hospital, now rechristened C U Shah Sankara Nethralaya). He and a colleague founded the surgical facility there in 2006, and have grown it from a modest beginning of 30-40 procedures per month to its present average of 180+ cases per month. Following his departure from Nethralaya in 2013, Dr Sridhar Baratan joined an organization called Beyond Eye Care, where he was key in establishing and administering a state-of-the-art eye hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, under the capable leadership of his mentor, Dr Rashmin Gandhi. The facility is currently seeing over 120 patients each day and is well on its way to meeting our projected target of 5000+ procedures in 2014-15. Dr Sridhar Baratan returned to India and accepted a position as Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist, Refractive, LASIK, and Phaco surgeon, and Head, Maxivision Eye Hospitals in Tamil Nadu. He is currently a Consultant at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai, with a focus on Phacoemulsification, Refractive Surgery, LASIK, and Glaucoma.
