Dr Sriram Narayanan specializes in vascular surgery, which includes the treatment of artery, vein and lymphatic system diseases.
His clinical experience covers chest and abdominal aneurysm vascular repair (swelling of the artery), diabetic and non-diabetic peripheral vascular disease revascularization (restoration of blood flow), dialysis access surgery (to pump blood in diabetics), removal of blockages in the carotid artery for stroke prevention and advanced wound treatment.
Dr Sriram Narayanan graduated from the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in India with a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery in 1993. He then received basic surgical training in Mumbai, India, at the Sir Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy Hospital, where he obtained his Master of Surgery in 1997. Subsequently, in Liverpool and Cornwall, UK, Dr Narayanan received advanced training in gastrointestinal, thoracic (chest) and hepatobiliary (liver, gall bladder, bile duct) surgery, followed by 2 years of transplant study in Nottingham, UK.
Dr Sriram Narayanan subsequently underwent subspecialty training in vascular surgery at the School of Medicine of Cardiff University in 2002. In 2008, under Dr Alun Davies, who presided over the academic section of vascular surgery, Dr Narayanan became a senior vascular fellow at Imperial College London, UK. Dr Narayanan studied at the vascular units of the Charing Cross Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital in London, UK during his fellowship.
Dr. Narayanan was formerly a Vascular Surgeon Consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). He was the chief of vascular surgery and a key faculty member of the National Healthcare Association, Singapore, surgical residency program during his stint.
Research publications by Dr. Narayanan include transplantation, vascular access, and endovascular surgery, which is a minimally invasive procedure. He is a peer reviewer for the International Surgery Journal as well.
In Southeast Asia, Dr Narayanan trains doctors in venous reconstruction surgery, intravascular ultrasound and aortic surgery. In 2016, he was the chairman of the Asian Venous Forum organized by the Asian Vascular Surgery Society.
Dr Sriram Narayanan supervised the study of PhD students in philosophy on the computer simulation of Asian aortic aneurysms at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, in addition to clinical practice. He is currently an assistant adjunct professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at Singapore National University (NUS).
