- Dr Stanley Ralph Ernest earned his MBBS degree from the University of Singapore in 1978. In 1982, he was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCS) in Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Surgery following a year in Edinburgh on a Singapore Government Scholarship (HMDP). Dr. Stanley earned another scholarship (HMDP) in 1987 to pursue advanced training in Head and Neck Surgery at Guys & Royal Marsden Hospital, Royal National Throat Ear and Nose Hospital, and University College London, United Kingdom. He was elected to the American Academy of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery in 2001. Additionally, he belongs to the American Rhinologic Society and the American Society for Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr. Stanley served on the Chapter of Surgeons Committee in the 1990’s and on the organizing committee for the Singapore Head and Neck Surgery Course. Dr. Stanley joined Singapore General Hospital (SGH) in 1992 as Head and Senior Consultant in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology (Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery). He then established an Endoscopic Sinus Surgery Laboratory at SGH, complete with extensive facilities for training younger surgeons in this specialized area. Additionally, he was instrumental in the advancement of Head, Neck, and Thyroid surgery, as well as Advanced Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, within the ENT Department (SGH). This is particularly true for endoscopic pituitary surgery performed in the department in collaboration with the Neurosurgical Team. His other accomplishments include the establishment of a Comprehensive Voice Laboratory and clinic at SGH, which resulted in the establishment of a successful Post-Laryngectomy Voice Restoration Program.
Prior to establishing his own private practice at Gleneagles Medical Centre in 1995. In 1993, he was named Visiting Professor at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California, USA. Dr. Stanley served on the Gleneagles Hospital’s Quality Assurance Committee in 2004/2005 and 2005/2006. He is currently a Senior Consultant in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. - Surgeon at Gleneagles Medical Centre in Singapore and a member of the Medical Expert Panel for the Singapore Subordinate Courts’ Primary Dispute Resolution Centre. Dr. Stanley has lectured widely across the world. Dr Stanley Ralph Ernest was a 1994 International Guest Speaker at the Canadian Society of Otorhinolaryngology’s Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgeon Update in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. Additionally, he organized and directed a course on endoscopic sinus surgery in Ho Chi Minh City and has lectured as a guest lecturer in Myanmar, Brunei, and Western Australia. At the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Dr. Stanley performed live endoscopic sinus surgery.
Dr Stanley Ralph Ernest has written and co-authored several articles for both national and international publications. Parotid Surgery (Recurrent Pleomorphic Adenoma), Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Foreign Body Complications, Acute Epiglotitis, and Chronic Laryngeal Stenosis were among the peer-reviewed publications. Dr Stanley Ralph Ernest also contributed a chapter to a book titled “Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma” (Clinical Presentation). He continues to lecture on a variety of continuing medical education programs in Singapore and has been a guest speaker in Vietnam, Myanmar, Brunei, and Western Australia.
Dr Stanley Ralph Ernest’s clinical interests include endoscopic sinus surgery, head and neck cancer surgery, and allergy-related ENT diseases, both of which he acquired during his Otorhinolaryngology training and practice.
