In 1974, Dr Suresh H Advani joined the Tata Memorial Hospital’s (TMH) Oncology Department. He was appointed Chief of the Department of Medical Oncology in 1985. The department expanded capacities for offering modern medical and paediatric oncology services under his leadership, including haematology, cytogenetics, and molecular diagnostics laboratories, a day care chemotherapy center, and patient counseling services.
He was instrumental in the establishment of TMH’s Doctorate of Medicine (DM) in Medical Oncology (Mumbai University). He has mentored a number of successful oncologists. Dr. Advani is credited as being a forerunner in the field of bone marrow transplantation in India.
Education
- In 1966, he graduated from Bombay University with a degree in medicine.
- He received additional training in cancer in the United States after completing his internal medicine and haematology-oncology training at the JJ Hospital, Grant Medical College in Mumbai.
