- Dr Tan Hwee Sim earned her medical degree (MBBS) at the University of Adelaide in Australia and her specialised medical degree, Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) at NUS. Adult psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry are among her specialties. Additionally, she is skilled in psychological counseling. She is a Certified Counselor for Substance Abuse and a Certified Counselor for Gambling Addiction.
- Dr Tan Hwee Sim was a scholar of the Ministry of Health’s Health Manpower Development Plan and underwent subspecialty training in addiction and impulse control disorders at Yale University in the United States of America. She formerly served as Deputy Chief of the IMH’s Department of Addiction Medicine. She had ran her own private psychiatric practice before to joining Raffles Hospital. She has expertise managing specialist clinics, including a bipolar disorder clinic, an early psychosis clinic, a child and adolescent clinic, and an addiction and adolescent addiction clinic. Dr Tan also worked in Australia for three years, in general psychiatry, acute crisis intervention, and a veteran mental hospital (with high prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder). Dr Tan was a prominent member of the workgroup that established the Ministry of Health’s Clinical Practice Guidelines on “Benzodiazepines Prescription” in 2008 and “Management of Gambling Disorders” in 2011. In 2010, she co-authored a book about gambling disorder. Since 2011, she has been a lecturer on the Diploma in Mental Health course.
