Dr Tan Kok Soon is a cardiologist who works at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
Dr Tan Kok Soon graduated from Trinity College, Ireland with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1985, and was the college’s foundation scholar and winner of the MacCarthy Gold Medal in the 1985 final medical year review.
Dr Tan Kok Soon completed his internal medicine specialty training under the Dublin Hospitals’ Training Scheme and obtained his membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 1987 and his membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom in 1988.
With interventional cardiologists Dr Paul Teirstein and Dr Richard Schatz as his mentors, Dr Tan did his interventional cardiology residency program at Scripps Clinic, La Jolla in California. The Scripps Clinic awarded him a clinical fellowship in interventional cardiology in 1997. He was officially accredited as a cardiologist by the Professional Accreditation Board of Singapore in 1998.
From 1999 to 2003, Dr Tan was appointed head of the cardiology department at Changi General Hospital.
Dr Tan Kok Soon previously served as Chairman of the Scientific Organizing Committee of the Singapore Cardiac Society in 2003 and as Chairman of the National Heart Week Organizing Committee in 2001.
Dr Tan Kok Soon is also a board member of the Cardiac Society of Singapore, a member of the National Heart Association of Singapore, a faculty member of the PTCA Group, the National Heart Centre of Singapore, and a member of the Interventional Cardiology Society of the Asian Pacific.
