Biodata
- Dr Tan Puay Ling graduated from the National University of Singapore with a medical degree in 1998 and a Master of Medicine in Surgery (NUS) in 2002. In 2006, she was awarded a Health Manpower Development Program (HMDP) scholarship and spent a year at the prestigious Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (Linkou) under the supervision of Prof FC Wei and Prof David Chuang, both of whom are internationally renowned specialists in reconstructive microsurgery, nerve surgery, and paediatric hand surgery. Her particular interest in hand and wrist arthroscopy has also led her to work with Dr AL Osterman of the Philadelphia Hand Center and Dr PC Ho of Hong Kong’s Prince of Wales Hospital.
- Dr Tan Puay Ling consults at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital, and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital as a Visiting Consultant.
- Dr Tan is well-known in her field and is currently the Chairman of the Hand Surgeons Chapter of the College of Surgeons, Academy of Medicine Singapore. From 2010 to 2012, she also served as Treasurer and Secretary of the Singapore Society for Hand Surgery.
- From 2011 to 2013, she served as the Program Director for the National Healthcare Group’s (NHG) Hand Surgery Program due to her strong commitment in education and research. Additionally, she is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at NUS’s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Prior to joining CHARMS, she was also the Chairman and Director of the Surgical Sciences Training Centre at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
- Apart from speaking at numerous local, regional, and international conferences, Dr Tan has published extensively in a variety of international periodicals, including a book chapter in the cited handbook “The Art of Microsurgical Reconstruction.” Additionally, she acts as an expert reviewer for a number of prestigious journals.
- Dr Tan Puay Ling was previously the Head and Consultant of the Hand & Microsurgery Section at Tan Tock Seng Hospital before establishing her private practice in CHARMS. Dr Tan is now the only female hand surgeon in private practice who is accredited.
- Dr Tan is a multilingual physician who is fluent in English, Mandarin, Hokkien, and Malay.
