This includes laparoscopic resection of the liver and pancreas, laparoscopic cholecystectomy and exploration of the bile duct, resections of the intestine, small bowel and colon, laparoscopic appendicectomy, reconstruction of laparoscopic hernia, oesophago-gastro-duodenoscopy, colonoscopy, and retrograde endoscopic cholangiopancreatography.
He graduated in 1999 from the National University of Singapore, and obtained training at Changi General Hospital and Singapore General Hospital in general surgery and hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery.
Dr Tan Siong San was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan Award by SingHealth in 2010 and spent one year at Chang Sung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan as a clinical and research fellow in HPB surgery and liver transplantation.
He was named director of the HPB service at Changi General Hospital, a position he held for nine years, helping to improve the HPB service and expanding its capacity to provide HPB surgery that is minimally invasive. In 2019, Duke-NUS Medical School awarded him the title of adjunct assistant professor.
