- MBBS (Singapore), FRCS (Edinburgh), FRCS (Glasgow), FAMS Senior Consultant Hand Surgeon (Hand Surgery) Dr Tan Soo Heong is a consultant hand surgeon and the Director of Hand, Wrist, and Upper Limb Surgery at Singapore General Hospital. He earned his medical degree from the National University of Singapore and surgical fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow. Dr Tan completed his residency in Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery at Ogori Daiichi Hospital in Japan and at the world-renowned Kleinert Kutz and Associates Hand Care Center in the United States of America. He was a prominent consultant hand surgeon at the Singapore General Hospital’s Department of Hand Surgery.
- In 1996, Dr Tan Soo Heong was awarded a Japanese Government Scholarship for Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery. In 2000, he received the SGH Young Investigator Award and a Ministry of Health Higher Manpower Development Plan Fellowship in Hand and Advanced Reconstructive Microsurgery.
- Dr Tan Soo Heong has held a variety of posts in research and education. He previously served as the Director of Research and Fellowship Training at the Department of Hand Surgery, as well as a Clinical Lecturer at the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, and Nanyang Polytechnic. From 2002 to 2004, he served as President of the Singapore Society for Hand Surgery. He is a member of the Chapter of Hand Surgeons of the Singapore College of Surgeons.
- Dr Tan is a member of a number of local and international professional organizations. He is a member of the American Society for Hand Surgery, the British Society for Hand Surgery, the Japanese Society for Hand Surgery, and the Singapore Society for Hand Surgery. He is also a member of the Kleinert Society, the Singapore College of Surgeons, and the Singapore Medical Association. He has authored numerous scientific articles and book chapters and is a frequent speaker at local, regional, and worldwide gatherings.
